On behalf of Fr. Leo and the Parish Pastoral Council, the Finance Council would like to express our appreciation to the parish community for your willingness to embrace our Lord’s call to live out the tithe. We are seeing the fruits of this discipline as more of our brothers and sisters in Christ walk the path of stewardship. We believe that tithing is our way of participating in the ongoing mission of the Church and our parish.
One of the benefits of greater participation in tithing, as well as an increase in the amount of the tithe by our parishioners, is that our income will exceed our budgeted expenditures. This is to be expected since our budgeted expenses are what we plan to spend on the salaries of our staff, the care of our historic facilities, the financing of our parish annual activities and the maintenance of ministries to the community. However, our purpose as a parish is to expand the mission of Christ, to reach out and make a bigger difference in this community, and to bring far more people to Christ.
In our most recent fiscal year, which ended on June 30, 2012, our income approximated our expenditures. This will allow us to share to a greater degree in the mission Christ is calling us to embrace. However, we know that we need even greater participation—everyone’s participation—if we are to truly accomplish the mission to which God is calling us.
